Progress made in preventing future floods

Mayor Jake Day and the City of Salisbury are determined to prevent they type of flooding Salisbury saw in October 2016. Day released a facebook video Wednesday to go over the progress the city has made in curbing flooding, especially in the west side of town.
Day featured the project at the intersection of Isabella Street, Delaware Road and West Road, where construction had been ongoing for between 8-10 months. That site had many of the city's oldest water and sewage pipes repaired and replaced.
Also discussed was the flood mitigation project underway on Isabella and West, which helps divert storm water from nearby neighborhoods and businesses and toward the Wicomico River.
Amanda Pollack, Director of Infrastructure and Development, says the city is always looking for places that flood and how to improve the situation.
"Right now we have a project under design on East Main Street in an area that floods frequently. So we're looking at also doing some pipe improvements in that area. So we'll just take each one systematically and look one at a time and try to make improvements."
Salisbury's current project list comes to a price tag of just over $2 million, while the list of future projects is projected for just over $5.7 million over the next five years.
