Police: Man choked victim at a Milford home

Brandon Barnes, 30, of Lewes

A Lewes man is facing charges after police say he choked someone at a home in Milford.

The Milford Police Department says they responded to a home on Lucia Circle, on June 30, while on patrol in Milford. While investigating the reported incident, Police learned that 30-year-old Brandon Barnes, of Lewes, reportedly came to the home and kicked in the door, damaging the door in the process. After further investigation, authorities learned that Barnes began to argue with the victim, who went outside because there were small children in the home. While outside, police say Barnes continued the argument and then choked the victim. According to the report, Barnes eventually stopped choking the victim before fleeing from the scene.

After a warrant was issued for Barnes's arrest, he reportedly turned himself in to the Milford Police Department on July 3. Barnes was charged with burglary second degree: dwelling, strangulation, 4 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal mischief under $1,000: damage property at Justice of the Peace Court 2.

He was released on $8,500 unsecured bail, with a no contact order with the victim. A preliminary hearing will be held in Kent County at the Court of Common Pleas at a later date.
