Police: Denton man arrested for theft, traffic charges after fleeing in a stolen car

Police say that a Denton man was arrested on Thursday morning on auto theft and related charges after a brief chase in Caroline County.

According to Maryland State Police, 29-year-old Jeffrey Ireland of Denton, is charged with driving under the influence, theft, theft over $1,000, fleeing and eluding and other related traffic charges in connection with the incident.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, a trooper from the Easton Barrack reportedly tried to stop a Chevrolet pickup truck for a traffic violation. The driver, later identified as Ireland, allegedly failed to stop, leading police on a pursuit into the town of Denton.

Police say that the vehicle crashed a short time later into a yard on Second Street and the driver tried to run away.

Ireland was taken into custody after a short foot chase. An investigation reportedly found that the vehicle that Ireland was driving had been stolen out of Centreville.
