Phase one of Salisbury Main Street construction complete

Phase one of the East Main Street construction in downtown Salisbury was completed Thursday, and a portion of the road has been reopened.
The first phase was expected to take just three months. Instead, it took almost nine.
The construction and road closures took a toll on businesses in the area like Caribbean Flava.
Elvis Scott, the cook at Caribbean Flava, told 47ABC that during construction, the business made half of what it normally would make.
Despite this, Scott said he understands why the construction was necessary. “Well you just have to have patience, you know what I mean? Fixing the road is good for us. You know what I mean? It stops the flooding and all that stuff, so that was a good project they were doing but we just had to work around it,” he said.
Phase two of the East Main Street construction is now underway. Officials say that phase one sidewalk, fiber, lighting, landscaping signage, benches, trash cans and recycling bins will start in the next few weeks. It is expected to take three months.
With more construction, comes more road closures. The new closures will be located on another portion of East Main Street, between Poplar Hill Avenue and Baptist Street.
