Money Grant for Veteran Jobs

Easter Seals, a nationwide non-profit organization, announced Tuesday that it is receiving $809,000 in federal grant money to help veterans in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia find jobs.
Life after war can be a tricky one, especially if you’re a veteran on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. LaVaughn Price, a veteran and service officer for the Salisbury chapter of Disabled American Veterans said, “It’s hard to get back acclimated to the – to back before you left.”
When asked about services available to veterans in Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Price said, “We have to go to either Baltimore or Wilmington or somewhere a long way at least 2 hours away, so the support system on the Eastern Shore is limited."
47ABC found out Tuesday that all of the federal grant money will end up on the Western Shore of Maryland. Despite this, Easter Seals said local vets can still get help if they can’t make the drive.
Tim Stecher, Executive Vice President of Veterans Employment with Easter Seals, said, “They can go to our website or reach out to one of our employment counselors who will reach out to them through phone or as you mentioned, Skype."
Fortunately, there are still some services already in place on the Eastern Shore if veterans are looking for jobs.
Price said, “A lot of veterans’ organizations have job fairs. The V.A. even has job fairs."
On September 12th, Price said the Disabled Veterans of America will have a mobile resource unit to help veterans file claims with the V.A. along with other services.
For those who are looking for something sooner, the Disabled American Veterans of Salisbury is located in the Cannon building downtown.
