Monday Memo – July 3, 2017

MONDAY MEMO
      TO:  ALL STAFF
FROM:  KATHLEEN
  DATE: 3 July 2017

At the risk of stating the obvious, tomorrow is the 4th of July and already is an extremely busy time on Delmarva with much more traffic than usual.  Remember to drive defensively and especially be on the lookout for out-of-state cars (with directionally challenged drivers) and little kids who wander away from their parents.  Safety should be everyone’s first priority.

INTERNET ALERT

• The number of frauds continues to grow and you are reminded NOT to open any emails from any country in Europe.  If you receive one, just delete it.  Europe is experiencing another attack of ransomware.  Several such emails have already come into the station and have been deleted without opening.  Delete without opening!
• The DMV warns drivers about traffic ticket phishing.  This comes from NY where drivers are being targeted.  Phishers are seeking personal information and, at the same time, the malware installs a tracking tool on the victim’s computer.  Maryland could be next, so don’t fall for it if something comes to you.

THE FCC PROPOSES TO ADD BLUE ALERTS TO EAS

• Called a “Blue Alert”, the option would be used by authorities in states across the country to notify the public through television and radio of threats to law enforcement, to help apprehend dangerous suspects and advise the general public how to stay safe during these events.

TUNE UP YOUR VOICES!

• As most of you already know, “American Idol” has been picked up by ABC for a mid-winter launch.  The closest auditions to us are being held in Annapolis on 5 September.  If you decide to attend the audition, let Sarah Truitt know as we would be interested in following up and we all would wish you much success!  The network has hedged their bets a bit by saying that the dates are subject to change.  If I get word of a change, I’ll be sure to mention it in the MM.  Stay tuned!
