Milford woman arrested for abandoning her child

Police in Milford have arrested a woman for abandoning her son.

On July 13, 2017, around 7:00 p.m. the Milford Police Department's Patrol Division responded to the 900 block of North DuPont Boulevard to a report of a child who had been sitting near a business for an extended period of time.

Officials say when they arrived the 14 year old boy said that his mother had left him and that he was waiting for her to return.Further investigation revealed that the young boy had a medical condition and appeared to  have gone untreated. He was also left with medications with no direction on how to take them.

The juvenile was taken into custody and turned over to the Delaware Division of Family Services.

On Sunday, July 16, 2017, police arrested Jill Griffith, 48. She has been charged with Abandonment of a Child 14 years old or over, Child Abuse 2nd Degree Recklessly / Intentionally Cause Physical Injury to a Child with Intellectual Disabilities, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. 

Jill Griffith has been committed to the Delaware Department of Correction at the Delores J. Baylor Women's Correctional Institution.
