Maryland Comptroller issues temporary waiver for motor fuel tax licensees and emergency responders

In the wake of an F-2 tornado ravaging parts of Kent Island early Monday morning, Comptroller Peter Franchot announced a temporary waiver of motor fuel tax payments for companies that may have been affected by the storm, on Tuesday.
Comptroller Franchot said "Our primary focus is ensuring that businesses and individuals impacted by this storm can focus on cleaning up and rebuilding their community. My office stands ready to assist and to ease any burdens we can."
International Fuel Tax Agreement (I.F.T.A.) licensees in the affected area of Queen Anne's County have a one month extension to file their second quarter I.F.T.A tax returns; they are now due by August 31. Businesses who file and pay by the extended deadline will get a waiver of interest and penalties.
Additionally, Maryland Motor Fuel Tax license holders in Queen Anne's County also have a one month extension to file their June 2017 motor fuel tax returns; they are now also due by August 31. A waiver of interest and penalties will be also be given to licensees who file and pay by the new date. Certain I.F.T.A requirements are also temporarily waived for shippers and carriers of essential emergency relief supplies, or to those that are giving restoration of utilities to the impacted area.
