Low-cost generic Epipen available ahead of back to school

CVS Pharmacy is providing consumers with the chance to purchase low-cost generic EpiPen alternatives as parents prepare for back to school prescription refills.

We're told the authorized generic EpiPen is being offered for about a sixth of the price of EpiPen's cash price.

This cost-saving alternative can be helpful as school season approaches, and parents add new allergy prescriptions to their list of school supplies.

We were able to get a statement from Amy Lanctot, Senior Manager, Public Relations at CVS Health.

"More Americans have high deductible health plans than ever before, and that can mean families are struggling with higher out-of-pocket costs. Our pharmacists are committed to helping patients save money at the pharmacy counter by considering generic medications, as they typically cost less than brand name drugs, and are just as effective."

We are told these auto-injectors are FDA approved.
