Injuries reported in Millsboro crash

Officials say that people were injured in a crash that happened in Millsboro early Wednesday morning.

According to the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, at 12:02 a.m. on Wednesday morning, firefighters responded to a car crash on John J. Williams Highway near Wawa. It was reported to be a two vehicle crash with heavy damage to both cars, passenger entrapment and a significant debris field.

Officials from Indian River, Long Neck, Oak Orchard and Delaware State Police responded, along with the Millsboro Fire Company, the Sussex County Paramedic and the Delaware Department of Transportation.

Officials say that units helped stabilize patients, rescue patients from the vehicle, control traffic with a complete roadway closure of John J. Williams Highway, recover fluid and debris and clear up the scene.

The Fire Company says that a black Chevrolet suburban and a black Infinity SUV were traveling on John J. Williams Highway when they crashed into each other near the intersection of Carillon Square and Shore Plaza Boulevard.

Both cars suffered extensive front end damage with significant fluid loss causing the need for a Del DOT sand truck. Everyone who required treatment was transported to nearby hospitals in Lewes.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control during the incident. Delaware State Police are investigating.
