Crisfield showcases floating museums through Chesapeake Bay Buyboat Show

A little bit of rain today didn't stop people from uncovering some history in Crisfield.

Twelve Chesapeake Bay Buyboats docked at Somers Cove Marina in Crisfield showcasing their vessels, providing a window to the past.

These larger boats were sent out to buy oysters in particular, or crab, from the small fisherman boats that weren't big enough or fast enough to get to market.

These buyboats sailed up and down the Chesapeake Bay, but they all have close ties to Crisfield. Crisfield was a main destination for the waterman to trade.

Some of these floating museums filled with rich history and background were built over 100 years ago. We are told the majority of them were built in the late teens up to the 30's, most of them pre-second world war.

And some of these buy boats tend to be in the 60-foot-range. Each one uniquely crafted.

These buyboats were not only an economic boost in the past, but they continue to do so today.

We are told the Tawes Museum hopes to continue having events like these to showcase their history and culture.
