Christmas comes early for 6-year-old boy battling cancer

In Hurlock, Christmas came much earlier this year.

On Thursday, Santa Claus made a special visit for 6 year old Gage Kelley. Gage was diagnosed with leukemia 5 months ago.

During this tough time, the Hurlock community has rallied behind this family. One way they're showing their support is by throwing them a Christmas in July event. The town  brought an array of vehicles and trucks  for little Gage to ride in.

"I rode in a lot of cool cars. The fire truck, there was a military truck, that was my favorite too," says Kelley.

"Anytime we can do something like this it kind of takes away from the medical side of his day to day life," says Shawn Kelley, Gage's father.

One thing that helps this family  through difficult days is Gage's positive outlook.

"Even facing what he is facing on his worst days, getting  sick, or having recently gotten his chemo , he has been tremendous.  He'll look up at me  and smile  he'll reassure me that everything will be ok, I'll be fine I promise," says Kelley.
