Changes coming to Chincoteague National Park

Chincoteague National Park officials are making some changes, and they want input from the public.

A public information session was held at the park Tuesday, to give people a chance to see a few plans officials have put together.

Officials tell 47 ABC that they're looking to install a new parking lot and access trail for the beach recreation area.

They say the current parking lot and beach washes away, and is costly to maintain.

"The parking area in its current location is getting increasingly cost prohibitive because of natural features…natural processes," John Wilson, project manager, said.

Park officials say they plan to hold another information session.

Anyone looking to give input has until August 24th to weigh in by sending an email to: NorthChincoteagueBeach@dot.gov.

Comments can also be mailed to:  Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, ATTN:  North Chincoteague Beach, P.O. Box 62, Chincoteague, VA 23336.

All displays from the open house, including the concept design exhibits, will be uploaded here: to project website.
