Animal Shelter Officials Seek Pet Parents and Donations

Brandywine Valley officials hope the community will rally behind the agency to donate money and adopt displaced animals. So far the agency has collected just over $35,000 after creating a Fundly page.

Officials at a local animal shelter are counting on the kindness of strangers to help rebuild — and find homes for almost 100 animals.

47 ABC's Erica Murphy reports from Georgetown, Delaware.

The Brandywine Valley S-P-C-A hopes that pet parents and donors come forward to help them out of a rough situation.

"We are faced with bills on many different fronts. We have to think about the cost of care for boarding the animals, the cost of care for veterinary treatment and also the cost of all the repairs at this facility."

That's the reality of the Brandywine Valley S-P-C-A — after an S-U-V crashed into their New Castle facility Sunday.

It claimed the life of the driver — and three cats.

The building was severely damaged and now shelter officials are tasked with finding good homes for the nearly 1-hundred displaced animals as well as finding money to rebuild.

"We don't have a concrete figure yet but the estimates that are being put in front of us are pretty staggering."

The agency has set up a fundly page — with a goal of collecting a little over *35-thousand dollars* towards the rebuilding efforts.

Fenstermacher says shelter expenses escalate daily — because one cat — *Harmonie* — is being treated at an emergency vet center.

And the displaced animals from New Castle are being housed in kennels until there is space at other S-P-C-A locations.

"The reality is that emergency veterinary care is extremely costly but we're doing everything that we can to make sure that Harmonie gets the help that she needs and we're hoping that the community can help us support her."

Anyone looking to help by adopting a fur baby or donating money is encouraged to visit the Fundly page — or stop into any of the Brandywine Valley S-P-C-A locations.

The Brandywine Valley S-P-C-A location – in Sussex County Delaware – is in Georgetown.

As for the driver — Latoya Cooper — who died after crashing into the S-P-C-A building — she is a mother of 5.   And there was a vigil for her at the S-P-C-A on Monday.

Authorities are still investigating the factors leading up to the incident.

Her family set up a Go-Fund-me page to help pay for funeral costs
