Airport Road pavement rehabilitation project begins on July 17

The City of Milford's contractor, Diamond Materials of Newport, started construction work on Airport Road on July 17, The project includes pavement base repair, drainage improvements and pavement overlay of about 1.4 miles of Airport Road between DuPont Boulevard (US 113) and Canterbury Road (DE 15.)
Work on the projected $2.4 million dollar project is set to be finished by December 17, which is 30 days less than originally expected.
The pavement base repair and drainage improvements will require a full closure of the roadway during construction. Through the cooperative efforts of the contractor, the City and the consulting engineer, the sequencing of the road closure has been changed to cut the overall contract time by 30 days. The sectional closures include:
- Phase V- Between Roosa Road and Route 113. During this phase, traffic will be directed onto Roosa Road, Bowman Road and Canterbury Road. Projected time frame is July 17 to August 5.
- Phase IV- Between Cascades Lane and Roosa Road. That phase will be done in three separate sections to allow access to businesses and residents along the roadway. Traffic during the phase will be directed to Bowman Road and to US 113 starting August 3 through September 22.
- Phase III- Between Bowman Road and Cascades Lane. This phase will be completed in two sections to provide access to businesses and will divert traffic using Canterbury Road, Bowman Road, and US 113. Projected time frame is September 20 through October 26.
- Phase I – Between Delaware Veterans Blvd and Bowman Road. During this phase the detour will be through the Milford Industrial Park using Mullet Run and Brent Jordan Way, and will be finished in two separate phases to allow access to the Jehovah Witness Church beginning October 24 through December 3.
- Phase II – Between Delaware Veterans Blvd and Canterbury Road. Traffic during this phase will be directed to Bowman Road and to US 113 beginning December 3 through December 17.
Construction at intersections is set to be finished during nighttime hours with only partial closures of the intersection. Upon completion of all roadway sub-base repair and drainage work, final top coat of asphalt will be laid over the whole roadway.
Project and schedule updates will be posted bi-weekly. Business owners, residents and others impacted by the closure can receive regular updates by signing up for CodeRED and NotifyMe on the city website. Additionally, updates will be posted on the City's Facebook page and through Twitter.
