Advocates rally in Salisbury to preserve a civil war marker

In Salisbury, several rallied outside of circuit court to preserve a civil war plaque placed outside.

We are told they are pushing to keep the marker for Confederate General John Winder, after a petition was started to remove it.

Showing Up For Racial Justice, known as SURJ, started the petition and held a rally to get the marker relocated.

The SURJ petition says having a marker honoring a Confederate general on those grounds is inappropriate, considering less than a hundred feet away is the location where the last lynching occurred in Salisbury.

In response, another online petition was placed, asking the Wicomico County Council to keep the marker.

We spoke with one activist who says this is important to keep because it's protecting history.

In order to get the final results, activists say Wicomico County Council should have community members vote on what should happen to that marker.
