Woman hospitalized after vehicle catches fire in Ocean Pines

Officials say that a 76-year-old female driver is being treated after her car caught fire on Ocean Parkway near Robin Hood Trail in Ocean Pines.

Police say last Sunday at 5:53 p.m., an officer responded to the scene of a single vehicle accident. Ocean Pines Police said the vehicle left the roadway and vaulted, rolling over several times before catching fire.

The victim then reportedly became trapped in her car. An officer used his fire extinguisher to put out the fire before smashing part of the victim's vehicle's window.

Fearing she may be injured, the officer reportedly waited for the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department.

Firefighters were able to rescue her and police say that the officer's quick response in putting out the fire was critical. The victim was transported to Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin with unknown injuries.
