A construction project hundreds of thousands of dollars in the making has been completed, Rehoboth Beach officials report.

The Lake Avenue Streetscape Improvement Project began this past September. The project primarily targeted street improvements.

It eliminated parking on one side of Lake Avenue and added more street lighting. In addition, utility poles have been relocated. An existing drainage system has also been upgraded.

Kyrs Johnson, communications specialist for the city of Rehoboth Beach, says residents are enthused by the changes that resulted from the project.

"Thanks to businesses who endured street construction for many months, they [residents] are now reaping the benefits, the 'Streetscape' is an asset to the residents and businesses on Lake Avenue, in terms of curb appeal, space and safety," explains Johnson.

The 800,000 dollar project was funded through a federal grant. Some remaining funds are being paid by the city.
