National HIV Testing Day underway in Delaware

National HIV Testing Day is on Tuesday.

It's estimated that there are 3500 Delawareans living with HIV, and an additional 350 people who are infected but don't know they have the virus. That's why free testing is being offered on Tuesday at six locations through out Delaware, until as late as 8 p.m. in Rehoboth Beach.

The HIV test results are usually available within 30 minutes. Tests are confidential and walk-ins are welcome. The CDC recommends that everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 get tested for HIV at least once as part of routine health care.

Free glucose and blood pressure screenings will also be available, as well as resources for anyone in need of HIV medical care. Officials say that people must be at least 13 years old and have a valid photo ID to be tested.
