NASA continues search for right time to launch

NASA is hoping the eighth time is the charm to launch its much-anticipated rocket.

Tuesday was the seventh scrapped launch attempt due to cloud cover.  Jeremy Eggers, with Wallops Office of Communications, says they've been having trouble because there are very specific requirements and conditions for a successful launch.

Eggers says the window for a successful launch stretches to this Tuesday.  As of now, NASA is taking things day-to-day discussing when weather conditions might be suitable.

The experiment, should it be completed, involves a new canister that releases ampoules into space with a compound that will create artificial clouds called vapor tracers.

Officials say the goal is to track particles in motion and learn more about the Ionosphere and the Aurora.

"So we're gonna have this day-by-day assessment of the weather to assess whether or not we can launch, and we have the launch window itself is going to run through next Tuesday.  So we have a number of days to hopefully get some good weather and some clear skies so we can launch this rocket," said Eggers.

Eggers says the plan is to have another weather meeting tomorrow to determine if Friday can support a launch attempt.
