Major doughnut chains celebrating ‘National Doughnut Day’

June 2nd is recognized nationally as "Doughnut Day."
The sweet treat was brought over to the United States by Dutch settlers in the 19th century, according to some doughnut historians.
The term "doughnut" is believed to have came from earlier recipes that had nuts placed in the center of the dough.
It does not matter if you like doughnuts powdered, glazed, or chocolate covered, today is the day to celebrate them all.
Krispy Kreme is offering a free doughnut to each customer Friday, with no other purchase necessary.
Meanwhile, Dunkin' Donuts is offering a free classic donut with the purchase of any beverage Friday.
