Dewey Beach town council releases statement in regards to town manager letter

The Dewey Beach Town Council has released a statement regarding allegations about their town manager.

Dewey Beach Town Commissioner Diane Hanson says, "Dewey Beach Town Council recognizes that the personnel complaint submitted on June 16 warrants a thorough and independent investigation.  Once formalized the mechanics of the investigation will be made public. The Council is firmly committed to a process that is full and fair to the complainants and to the subject of the accusations.

With the support of the Commissioners and town manager and for the benefit of all parties, until further notice, the assistant town manager will serve as the point of contact for any interactions with the police chief, the captain of the beach patrol, and the building official. Council anticipates that a resolution of this matter, given its complexity, will require a period of weeks.

Your patience is appreciated while town hall continues to meet the demands of an approaching busy summer season."

This comes after town employees sent a letter to the mayor and commissioners last week demanding that Marc Appelbaum be fired.

The letter describes multiple incidents of alleged inappropriate behavior and sexual harassment over several years.

One accusation claimed that Appelbaum screamed and swore at employees denigrating them in front of co-workers.

When 47 ABC reached out to the Mayor of Dewey Beach earlier this week, he said, "Obviously the town and Commissioners take all of this very seriously. We care about the welfare of all of our employees."
