Delaware Technical Community College unveils new Veterans Resource Center

Delaware Technical Community College in Dover celebrated the opening of a new Veterans Resource Center.
The $22,000 dollar Veterans Resource Center is more than just a space with comfortable lounge chairs and computers.
Del Tech's President Mark Brainard says this specific area lets student veterans be at ease allowing them to advance in their educational progress.
47 ABC spoke to a student vet at Del Tech, Ryan Rock, who graduated from Smyrna High in 2012 and started his initial entry in August.
Rock decided to come back home to the Smyrna area and Delaware Tech was his first choice to go to their criminal justice program to become a police officer.
But coming back and starting school again wasn't that easy.
Rock tells us this resource center is necessary, after being in a set routine for some time.
"It's very important to have a space like that to feel comfortable and relax and just talk to people who know what it's like to be in your shoes," Rock says.
But none of this would have been possible if it weren't for that $22,000 donation from the Navient Foundation.
The foundation is known as the largest student loan service across the country.
And in order to give back to the community, their president Jack Remondi says, he hopes this resource center will connect veterans.
Delaware Tech says they are committed to veterans and military service members.
Just last year, they received the 2016 Delaware Warrior Friendly Business Award, which is presented to a Delaware business that supports veterans through workplace initiatives.
