Delaware ranks second to last for infant mortality

Nine out of every 1000 children born in Delaware won't live to see their first birthday. If that statistic sounds low to you consider this. Those odds are only worse than one other state in the union Mississippi.
A new study from save the children called stolen childhoods compiled the data from government agencies like the centers for disease control and prevention.
They say although Delaware has made strides in improving their infant mortality rate more work needs to be done.
"Disadvantaged ethnic groups within Delaware don't have access to the services they need like home visiting, like prenatal care, like intrapartum care and post natal care. This has become in states like Delaware, a survival of the richest," said Richard Bland, national director of policy, advocacy & development
for Save the Children.
In comparison Maryland ranked 33rd in infant mortality and Virginia ranked 23rd.
