Coons takes on Carson about HUD budget cuts

Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson has flown relatively under the radar since his confirmation. However Wednesday he found himself square in the sights of Delaware Senator Chris Coons.
Carson was appearing before a senate appropriations subcommittee regarding the $6.2 billion budget cuts to the department of housing and urban development.
Part of those cuts is the elimination of the community development block grants or CDBG's.
Something Coons said has worked for Delaware, but something Carson says has not demonstrated a measurable impact.
"I understand you have to make priorities, but as predecessor in this seat, former Senator Biden many times said in my home state show me your budget and I'll show your values. I think we're a country that values community development and affordable quality housing and I think your agency in particular is charged with carrying out that mission," Coons said.
Carson had also suggested the budget recognizes a bigger role for state and local governments.
Something Coons also opposed saying the cuts essentially force local governments to try and pick up the tab.
