Arrests made in connection with thefts across the region

Deputies say that a man and a teen have been arrested in connection with multiple vehicle thefts around the region.

According to the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office, during the months of March and April, deputies investigated numerous thefts from unlocked cars throughout Dorchester County.

The thefts were reportedly a part of a large theft scheme conducted by a group that included areas in Dorchester, Caroline, Talbot and Wicomico Counties.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old boy from Hurlock, along with 18-year-old Zachery Layton of Secretary.

Layton was charged by way of a criminal summons which charges him with four counts of being a rogue and a vagabond, four counts of conspiracy to be a rogue and a vagabond, three counts of theft under $1,000, three counts of conspiracy to commit theft under $1,000, two counts of theft under $100, conspiracy to commit theft under $100, operating a theft scheme over $1,000 but under $10,000, and conspiracy to operate a theft scheme over $1,000 but under $10,000.
