Woman arrested in connection to armed robbery at Onley church

The Accomack County Sheriff's Office says an arrest has been made in connection to an armed robbery at a church in Onley on Wednesday.

According to police, at around 12:18 PM Wednesday a woman dressed in dark clothing and armed with a firearm entered St. Peter's Catholic Church and demanded money. She took cash from a victim and fled the scene on foot, officials said.

An investigation led police to identify Bertisha Rose Johnson, 52, of Onancock, as a suspect. She was arrested and charged with robbery, abduction and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Johnson has been committed to the Accomack County Jail without bond.
