With overnight thefts in Fruitland, police stress locking unattended vehicles

Fruitland Police are investigating several overnight thefts from unsecured vehicles in the area of Nina Lane, Chelsea Ann Lane and Paddock Drive.
Between midnight and around 5 o'clock Wednesday morning, a suspect or suspects entered unlocked cars parked along these streets, police said. Investigators say they are reviewing surveillance footage shot by cameras at private residences.
Anyone who may have more information or video footage is asked to call Detective Beaver with Fruitland Police at 410-548-2803.
The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office says the number of reported vehicle break-ins has risen nearly 30 percent so far this year compared to the same period of 2016. Though incidents have been reported throughout the county, officials say many have been concentrated in the southern part of Wicomico County. Practically all reported vehicle entries were of unlocked vehicles, officials said.
Both the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office and the Fruitland Police Department encourage people to lock their vehicles when unattended.
