UPDATE: Child killed in crash north of Milford

UPDATE: Delaware State Police have identified the child killed in Wednesday night's crash as 5-year-old Mason O'Connor of Harrington.

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal Wednesday night crash north of Milford that left a 5-year-old boy dead.

Police say that at around 8:05 PM, the driver of a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse attempted to make a left turn across the northbound lanes of Bay Road and failed to yield to oncoming traffic, striking a Chevrolet Silverado and being struck by a Ford Fusion.

The 37-year-old man driving the Mitsubishi and the driver's 5-year-old son in the back seat were both transported to Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. The man's condition has not yet been released.

Both the man and child had been properly restrained in the vehicle, police said.

The Ford Fusion's driver was also transported to Milford Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released. The pickup truck driver was not injured.

Investigators say no charges have been filed and that they do not believe alcohol or drugs played a factor.

According to police, northbound Bay Road was closed at Thompsonville Road for around four hours.
