Salisbury man arrested for DUI on Sheriff’s Office property

The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office arrested a man for DUI Sunday evening when he was observed driving in a restricted area on Sheriff's Office property, officials said.

At around 6:20 PM, police say a deputy saw a vehicle drivingly slowly through a marked restricted entry area at the Wicomico Public Safety Complex. The vehicle reportedly parked taking up two spaces in the parking lot.

According to police, the deputy made contact with the driver, identified as 59-year-old David Campbell of Salisbury, who told the deputy that he was there to pick up a friend from the Wicomico County Detention Center. The deputy smelled a strong odor of alcohol and administered a sobriety test, officials said.

Once out of the vehicle, Campbell was reportedly stumbling and using the vehicle for support. Police say they also found an unopened bottle of vodka in Campbell's pants pocket.

Campbell was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol per se. Officials say Campbell's breath sample measured a .23 blood alcohol level. He was released to a sober driver, officials said.
