Salisbury Historic District Committee meets to discuss changes to regulations

The Salisbury Historic District Committee met with the public to discuss revisions to its guidelines Wednesday evening.

The City of Salisbury was recently awarded a grant by the Maryland Historical Trust to rewrite its guidelines, a set of rules and regulations for residents that live in the Camden, Newtown and Downtown historic districts.

The guidelines regulate alterations and changes residents wish to make to their structures.

The revision process started in January and Director Susan Phillips says the hope is for the new guidelines to be adopted between August and September.

Following the meeting Phillips says she feels as though residents need more education on the guidelines.

"I feel that the residents need to be educated on if there's help for homeowners that need financial assistance to put on a roof per se.  If they're having any financial issues, need education on where to be steered in that direction, because there are available resources out there."

Going forward Phillips says there will be one more review period.  Residents will be able to review any draft before it goes before any city officials if they would like any additions or revisions.  The guideline would then be adopted as a resolution of the City of Salisbury, accepted as official procedure of the city.
