Proposed budget talks continue amid Del. shortfall

Budget talks continue as lawmakers in Delaware work to adopt the 2018 budget.
A town hall event is scheduled for May 24 to discuss the budget proposal proposed by democratic Governor John Carney.
The meeting will be held at the Delaware State Police Troop 2 in Newark at 6 p.m.
In March, Governor Carney presented his plan to close the 385 million dollar budget shortfall. 47ABC caught up with him Tuesday in Rehoboth Beach where he described the proposal as a mix of "share and sacrifice" with both cuts and projected revenue gain.
Carney told reporters he expects plenty of engagement with lawmakers in the next month and a half.
"We have to balance the budget in our state facing this deficit," he says. "I made the commitment to the people that I work for, people of Delaware that we are going to try to have a sustainable plan for the long term and that's what we believe we have proposed."
If adopted, the Governor says this budget would increase spending .29 percent over the current year.
