Possible health care fallout

In DC Republicans celebrating their healthcare victory in the house, but if this version of the bill passes the Senate who would be the big losers.

"Especially older patients, especially sicker patients, especially people with a pre-existing conditions, Medicaid recipients, poorer people, poorer people who qualify for special ed and all the programs that are funded through Medicaid," said Dr. Adam Hoffman, chair of Salisbury University's political science department.

Now there are winners Hoffman said, the current version does help out younger people. They'll most likely see lower premiums.

However Hoffman cautions the version of healthcare that passed in the House, most likely won't be the same one that the Senate passes if they pass one at all.

"The senate won't consider it until it's been scored by the (Congressional Budget Office) CBO,  so a lot of what Senate does to it will depend on how the CBO scores it," Hoffman said.

Last go-round  the CBO scored the old version of healthcare poorly because it caused tremendous costs for both the budget and low-income people.

Hoffman said partially because of that he believes the Senate won't pass the repeal of healthcare.

Even if it does pass Hoffman said it might not be the big victory President Trump thinks it will be

"I think it would be big, but i think it would be big in a negative way. Again you have to look at the polling numbers, we're in a completely different situation when it comes to American public opinion and how they feel about Obamacare then we were 5,6, or 7 years ago," Hoffman said.

Hoffman said he expects it will be several months before the Senate makes a vote.
