Milford Police say they arrested a man on Friday as he was in the process of committing a burglary.

According to police, at around 1:06 PM, officers responded to reports of a burglary in progress happening at a home in the 400 block of Pierce Street. A witness saw and recorded a man pushing a screen off of a window and breaking into the residence, officials said.

Upon arrival, police say officers told the man to come out of the residence. When the man reportedly refused to exit the home, officers went inside and took the man into custody.

Police identified the suspect as 48-year-old Henry Nutter, of Milford. Officials contacted the homeowner, who confirmed with police that Nutter was not allowed inside the home, police said.

Nutter is charged with second degree burglary, criminal mischief under $1,000 and resisting arrest. He has been committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of a $7,500 secured bail. Police say he was also given a no contact order with the property owner.
