Harrington man accused of punching pregnant woman

A Harrington man was arrested Tuesday morning following a domestic dispute where he reportedly punched a pregnant woman.

Shortly before 9 AM, officers with the Harrington Police Department responded to a residence at the Clarks Corner Apartments for a report of a physical domestic dispute.

On scene police say a woman told officers that she was assaulted. She additionally disclosed that she is pregnant. Police believe that the victim and 29-year-old Damarius T. Turnage were inside a residence with a 2-year-old child when an argument escalated.

Police say Turnage punched the victim in the face and took her phone in order to prevent her from calling police. Turnage also reportedly damaged the woman's property.

Turnage, who officials say fled the apartment before police arrived, was located by police and arrested. Police found that Turnage had additional warrants for his arrest from the Justice of the Peace Court 14 and the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas. Turnage was arrested and charged with second degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child, malicious interference with emergency communications and criminal mischief under $1,000.

Turnage was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute on an unsecured bond of $7,500 for his criminal charges and a secured bond of $1,500 for his capias.
