From Roots to Wings needs your votes

One Salisbury non-profit is looking to increase the number of homeless they can serve, but they need your help.

Roots to Wings has entered a contest through USA Today that allows the public to vote on their favorite community improvement idea.

The winners will receive anywhere from $50,000 to $100,000.

From Roots to Wings has entered their video with their idea to purchase a food truck.

Right now they hit the streets every Saturday in a van and serve meals out of a crock-pot, but they say that only allows them to reach about 10 percent of the homeless population.

With a food truck they believe they'll be able to serve more people and expand their service into the county.

"This will allow us to store a lot on truck, see more people. We spend now about three hours on  Saturday morning, every Saturday and we can extend that, we can extend that to five hours, maybe six hours or we can extend it to the point we go out twice a week instead of just once a week. So these are things, are all ideas that we have, but we're limited by our logistics, by our equipment," said From Roots to Wings founder Ron Pagano.

Voting goes on until May 12th and you can vote once a day at the website

The From Roots to Wings video is called a "Foodtruck to feed the homeless."
