Former manager eyes potential new Christian-based shop

After 85 years of business, Family Christian stores across the U.S. have closed its doors for good; however, one former manager is working to bring a new faith-based shop to the Salisbury area.
"There was a lot of different factors to it. These things don't happen overnight," Aquilla Cain says of the closings.
Cain, a manger of the Salisbury location for ten years, says the store closed in late April. According to the company website, all of its retail stores were slated to close by May 13.
Since the closing of the Salisbury location, Cain has been working to open an independent Christian-based store of her own.
In her words, the store which she has named "Thirst No More" will act as a "Christian hub" where religion meets entertainment.
"When you come to Thirst No More, we want you to have an experience. For myself and my husband, it's more than just a store if you will. It's more than just a business. It's ministry so we want to serve the community," she explains.
However, serving the community through a project of this size takes time, money, and planning.
Cain says she's currently eyeing two potential locations near Salisbury and it won't come cheap.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the project with a goal of 100,000 dollars by July.
During a sit-down interview with 47ABC on Monday, Cain admitted it's a tall order but she adds it's something the community needs and something she's passionate about trying to bring.
"I can only say that it will be going to a good purpose, and it's something you can be proud of that's in your community and something that you have input and say so," says Cain.
