Dover celebrates tricentennial birthday

Mayor Robin Cristiansen, a Dover native and Dover High Senator alum, cut the cake marking the 300th birthday for the capital of The First State.

The festivities were all apart of Dover Days and concluded with a fireworks display.  The action will continue Saturday with a parade, car show, English Country Dancers, and many other events to show the history of Dover and the State of Delaware.

"I was here for the 250th celebration back in 1967, when I was just a young child, so I'm really honored to be the mayor of the City of Dover celebrating 300 years of the city," said Christiansen.  "I consider the green, our downtown area city of Dover, to be where America really started."

The annual festival is in the middle of its 84th event.  Christiansen went on to say the event is a great way to bring the community together.

"It's a coming together of a very diverse community, and showcasing all of the people that have made Dover what it is in the past, what it is today and hopefully what it will be in the future."
