Crisfield to host public hearing to apply for federal funding

Stanley Bradshaw, a Crisfield resident remembers what the city used to look like.
"Down here in the corner they used to have a car dealership, they had a Ford dealership in town," says Bradshaw.
Bradshaw says over the years the City of Crisfield has been looking emptier. However, he remains optimistic about the future.
The city will be hosting a public hearing to receive input on applying for funding from the Maryland Community Development Block Grant Program. This program provides funds towards housing revitalization, community facilities, and economic development.
Bradshaw tells us what he'd like to see funded.
"The biggest part is the jobs," says Bradshaw.
Other residents would like money to go towards the city's youth.
"I think they should do something for the kids, so they stay out of trouble," says Joshua Pope.
"Even if they had an arcade, a movie theater, you know everything is out of town here. If we go somewhere, we always have to go to Salisbury to do anything," says Harvey Linton.
Residents say since Hurricane Sandy hit back in 2012, parts of the city are still trying to bounce back.
"It hit here pretty good. Some people are still trying to come back from it," says Pope.
Residents admit bringing Crisfield back to what it once was is not going to happen overnight, but they say voicing their needs and having potential funding is a start.
The public hearing will take place Wednesday, May 24th at 6PM in City Hall.
Awards are expected to be announced roughly 90 days of the application submission deadline.
