Carey’s Camp collects donations after their tabernacle sets on fire

One camp in Millsboro, which has been running for over 100 years, saw some damage to one of their structures early Thursday morning on May 11, 2017.

Carey's Camp had a fire in their open frame structure called the tabernacle.

The tabernacle is in the middle of the camp ground- where they have a staged placed inside.

We are told someone fell asleep on a mattress, holding a cigarette and that cigarette caught on fire. They did not confirm it was a homeless person. At this point they have no leads of who it was.

Carey's Camp believes this is an accident, but they do want the public to know that this is an ongoing investigation by the fire marshall.

And despite the mishap, this 12-day vacation bible school will continue this summer.

Carey's Camp is currently accepting donations for those repairs.

All the funds left over after the stage is repaired, will go to camp.

Carey's Camp has been running since 1888. They will be celebrating their 130th anniversary next year.

If you would like to send any donations, send them to:
