Update: Severely burned Lewes fire captain continues recovery

A Lewes fire captain severely burned from an explosion is recovering but has made progress, officials tells 47abc.

Jake Slater, 21, suffered first and second degree burns in March after an explosion at Delmarva Petroleum.

We're told Slater has had several skin grafts since the incident, with his latest one this past Monday.

"Surgeries are apart of healing process and the skin graft are for the fact that he has been burned and it has been successful," says Glenn Marshall of the Lewes Fire Department.

Marshall, spokesman for the Lewes Fire Department, says Slater is doing well and they are happy with his progress.

Lewes firefighters have been a morale booster for Slater as they continue to visit him.

No future surgeries are scheduled at this time.
