UMES School of Pharmacy students host opioid education-information exchange

At the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, students from the School of Pharmacy planned workshops Saturday, April 30th, 2017 to help those struggling with opioid use.

This event is called S.O.A.A.R. meaning substance and opioid abuse awareness response.

This is the first one being held by the School of Pharmacy.

We are told last year at this time, one of the students in their graduate program passed away, which caused them to create this event.

The day included workshops and Naloxone training. They also had several vendors, which provided rehabilitation counseling.

Tola Adebanjo, one of the coordinators tells us "The whole point of today is to connect who need it to the resources whether those people are medical providers, whether they are people affected directly, we want everyone to know who they can contact, who they can get in touch with and to join together so combat this problem."

We are told the School of Pharmacy wants to keep this event going as long as there is a problem.
