Salisbury Zoo hosts annual Earth Day celebration

With the celebration of Earth Day, the Salisbury Zoo hosted their annual event to promote environmental awareness.

The day started early in the morning with a 5K run called the Zoo Stampede.

All of the money raised from the race goes to back to conservation efforts.

There were numerous activities throughout the day, such as an informative recycling craft.

The zoo's education curator, Leonora Dillon, says the event also had 17 local organizations promoting a conservation-minded life.

"Each year for Earth Day we have a variety of organizations semi local some of them travel across the bridge actually to come and be with us that are conservation environmentally minded and they come out to promote what they are doing for the environment," Dillon tells 47 ABC.

The zoo has plenty of service projects that extend beyond Earth Day.

We are told they work with multiple organizations who are looking to give back, such as clean ups or plantings.

If you or your organization want to become involved, make sure to contact Salisbury's Zoo Education Department.
