Ocean City beach replenishment scheduled for this fall

The Ocean City Board of Public Works has approved $4.6 million in funding for beach replenishment in Ocean City.
Officials say the project will involve pumping around 371,100 cubic yards of sand onto shore to replace sand that washed away during last year's January winter storm. An additional 512,000 cubic yards of sand could be used to improve the beach and berm to engineers' full design template.
Sand is set to be pumped from an area in federal waters located three miles offshore of Ocean City, officials said. This work will reportedly begin after Labor Day and continue into late winter.
The project will be managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, along with cooperation from Worcester County, the Town of Ocean City and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
