MDOT issues bridge search teams for flammable materials

Maryland Department of Transportation has created a statewide search for materials under bridges that could be potentially harmful.
A week after the fire and bridge collapsing in Atlanta on I-85, MDOT has decided to proactively identify and relocate any similar material, that was involved in the collapsing, stored under any state-owned bridge.
"MDOT is doing everything we can to protect the safety of Marylanders as they use our road network to connect them to life's opportunities," said Transportation Secretary Pete K. Rahn. "We are committed to taking every step possible to prevent what happened in Atlanta from happening here in Maryland."
Starting this week, crews have been sent out, across Maryland to identify, collect and remove any potentially flammable or combustible materials under Maryland’s 2,564 state-owned bridges. This effort is expected to continue for several weeks.
