Maryland Hospital Association releases encouraging statistics

Hospitals in Maryland have made big strides in the past few years, that according to data collected by the Maryland Hospital Association.
In a press release, the association sited improved doctor-patient relationships and coordination among hospitals and other providers for the success.
Over a 3-year period, from 2013 to 2016, Maryland saw a 48 percent reduction in complications. That represented 13,400 fewer complication cases. The state saw an 11 percent reduction in readmission rates, or 11,000 fewer cases, and saw a 4-year streak of outpacing the nation in Medicare readmissions reduction.
Maryland Hospital Associate President and CEO Carmela Coyle said in a press release, "these new data illustrate that hospitals across our state are helping people get the right care, at the right time in the right setting."
"It's day to day, person to person, hands on bodies way to, that's what healthcare is all about," said Jim Reiter, Senior Vice President of Communications with the Maryland Hospital Association. "It's people taking care of people, and when your turn statistics into lives it's a good thing to see."
