Georgetown’s United Brotherhood of Carpenters’ attracts graduates through open house

An open house in Georgetown drew quite the crowd April 28, 2017, at the United Brotherhood of Carpenters.
This event was aimed at high school graduates, who got the chance to showcase their four year apprenticeship.
This took place at the million dollar training center that opened just four years ago.
During their first open house they had just 30 people attend and now it has grown to 150.
The open house features different sections that showcase carpentry including trim work and drilling.
This program allows students to receive free school while working four days a week.
But they do warn students that they need to work hard.
"Some of the students are just looking, they really don't want to go to college and it gives them another outlet or they can not have a tuition payment at the end and all, day one they start working on health benefits, annuity, savings plans and all things," the instructor, Al Brocato says.
Before they qualify to enter the program, they need to take an apprenticeship test. The test will take place May 9th at 9 a.m. and it will solely be based on math.
