Former Station 1 gets approval from Chiefs Association
Wednesday night, the Wicomico County Fire Chiefs Association approved the former Salisbury Station One volunteers to serve a portion of the county by a vote of 7 to 4.
The vote the most recent update in the situation that arose when the volunteers separated from the city fire department in February.
The former station one volunteers go by the name of the Corporation.
Their chief, Cory Polidore, says the fire chiefs association approved the motion to allow them to cover the county area they previously served, when they were part of Station One.
Earlier in April, the city and county reached a fire service agreement that stated that the Corporation would be housed in a hangar at the Salisbury-Wicomico County Airport.
Wednesday, Polidore told 47 ABC that that plan may not work now given the chief's associations recent decision.
"We didn't want to step on the toes of the mayor and the county executive. So we were kind of holding off on the building for snow hill road. But I'm looking forward to hopefully sitting down with the county executive now that this decision has come forward," Polidore said.
"It's really important that the county council and the county executive support what the county fire chiefs association has made as far a decision tonight."
Polidore explains that location wise, Snow Hill Road would make more sense and allow them to provide better service than their possible location at the airport.
The Corporation still has to receive a station number from the Radio Committee, a sub committee of the Fire Chiefs Association.
If everything goes as planned, the Corporation will start their service July 1st.
