Eden’s puppy mill bust marks one year as local veterinarian offers advice for treatment

April 6, 2017 marks exactly one year since that massive puppy mill bust in Eden.
One year ago authorities seized over 300 dogs from the propert.
Dr. Jaclyn Wolinski, a veterinarian at the Animal Wellness Center of Eastern Shore in Salisbury, tells 47 ABC that abused dogs like the ones in the Eden puppy mill case have post trauma and anxiety.
Back in April 2016, the Executive director of the Wicomico County Humane Society described the conditions of these mistreated dogs from the puppy mill case as deplorable when rescued.
And Dr. Wolinski says working with a professional after a case like this is key.
She states, "They need to beloved and nurtured but they also need structure and they need to learn to be dogs again."
We are told that each dog has a unique personality that will deal with trauma in different ways.
She says some need space, some need nurturing, and some need a lot of structure, while others just need rest and cooperation.
Many of the mistreated dogs from the puppy mill case were adopted and Dr. Wolinski tells us that meeting your future pet and doing your research prior is important.
Beyond that, we are told if you are willing to take the time, you can provide these four-legged friends a second chance at a happy life.
Dr. Wolinski says if you give it time, put some work in, the reward is going to be big.
