Distracted driving tops concerns of Maryland motorists

With the holiday weekend here AAA Mid Atlantic wants to remind drivers to put down the phones and keep both eyes on the road.
According to their recent surveys, the top cause of distracted driving is cell phone use, and it has become the biggest worry among drivers in Maryland.
Of Marylanders surveyed, 46 percent say others driving distracted is their top concern when they are behind the wheel. This is more of a 'do as I say, not as I do' for many, as 70 percent of those in the survey admit to talking on the cell phone while behind the wheel in the last thirty days.
Ragina Cooper Averella, Manager of Public and Government Affairs at AAA Mid-Atlantic, says even handless devices can lead to distractions.
"We even know with hands-free technology that doesn't mean that you are free from distraction. We've done several AAA surveys that show even using hands-free devices don't make you safe. So we really recommend people don't use the phone while driving."
Distracted Driving tops the list of concerns on the road — ahead of aggressive and drunk driving.
